NEWPORT, Maine — Police are continuing their search for a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Newport on Thursday.

At 2:15 p.m. Thursday, a white male entered Key Bank on Main Street along Route 2, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“We’re chasing down some leads right now and following up on some stuff coming in,” said Newport police Lt. Randy Wing on Friday morning. “There’s been no significant developments.”

Chief Leonard Macdaid would not say whether the man displayed a weapon.

Police are asking for the public’s help identifying and finding the subject.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10-inch white male with average build. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, dark blue shirt with a collar and blue jeans. He has a thick black beard and mustache.

The man may have left in a small, older-model blue vehicle, he said.

Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is asked to call the Newport Police Department at 368-3263.
