Taping for the latest reality TV show pilot being filmed in Maine is not being shot in Bangor, according to Doug Ray, spokesman for the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.

Filming for show is being filmed by Engel Entertainment of New York, the same producers responsible for “North Woods Law,” a successful reality TV show focusing on the Maine Warden Service.

Since this is a pilot and hasn’t been approved for final production, the company is being a little more sensitive than usual about revealing the location and subject matter of the shoot, which was set to begin Friday.

The Maine Film Office has issued a media production certificate to the Emmy Award-winning entertainment company for the pilot that focuses on a “very unique Maine family,” according to Engel Entertainment. If the pilot is successful, the new show would air on ABC Family.

No details were given regarding the family being featured.

“For competitive reasons, they didn’t want to tip off someone else to steal the idea,” Ray said.

A request Friday to obtain a copy of the production certificate was denied. The attorney general’s office decided the information contained in the document is proprietary, thus exempt by statute from public access.

“Once this is greenlit, they’ll obviously be shooting more and be able to release where it is, what it is and the family,” Ray said.
