ST. ALBANS, Maine — Somerset County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged four teens on Wednesday in two separate incidents involving stolen scrap metal.
The first incident occurred on Denbow Road in St. Albans at approximately 8:15 a.m. where old farm equipment, a disc harrow and a wood saw were stolen, Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster said in a news release.
Deputy Joe Jackson investigated the theft and subsequently charged Caleb Chadborne, 18, of Hartland with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, a Class D misdemeanor.
At approximately 2 p.m., deputies responded to suspicious activity on Molunkus Road in Cornville, said Lancaster.
“An off-duty deputy reported seeing a white Dodge pickup truck pulling out of the woods onto the Molunkus Road full of old scrap metal,” said Lancaster. “Deputies intercepted the pickup truck and interviewed three males that were involved.”
Kyle Christopher, 19, of Skowhegan was charged with Class D unauthorized taking or transfer as were two 17-year-old males from Skowhegan. The names of the 17-year-olds were not released because they are juveniles.
All four were summoned, not arrested.
Chadborne’s date in Skowhegan District Court is set for November 13. Christopher’s date in court is October 15, and the two juveniles are scheduled for November 25.
