BANGOR, Maine — Logan Bouchard has committed to attend Husson University this fall and will play on the men’s basketball team, according to a news release from the school.

Bouchard, a former Old Town High standout, was a 2006 KVAC All Star, 2006 McDonald’s All Star, and received a Bangor Daily News All-State Honorable Mention in 2006. That year, as a senior, he averaged 22.5 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and scored a career-high 42 points in a game.

“We are really excited to add Logan to our program,” Husson’s head men’s basketball coach Warren Caruso said in the release. “We recruited him hard in 2006 and spoke with him again in 2010. He has matured and is ready to be successful in college. Logan is a gifted athlete with good basketball skills. He will be a tough matchup for teams every night.”

Bouchard spent 2007-2009 at Southwest Illinois Junior College, playing two seasons and redshirting one. He averaged nine points and five rebounds per game during his sophomore year.

“I am looking forward to going to Husson to get my education and joining the basketball program,” Bouchard said. “I am excited to be able to play college basketball again and look forward to having a successful season.”

Bouchard will join a Husson team that went 20-9 last season, winning its third North Atlantic Conference championship in five years and playing in the first round of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Colby names Sandler men’s lacrosse coach

Jack Sandler, who spent the past eight seasons as head coach at Skidmore College, was named the head coach of the Colby College men’s lacrosse team Tuesday, the school announced in a press release.

Sandler started his coaching career in the New England Small College Athletic Conference at his alma mater, Bates College.

“Jack will be a great fit at Colby. He is exactly the type of person who can be successful and thrive in the rigorous academic and athletic environment we offer,” said Marcella Zalot, Colby’s athletic director. “His head coaching experience and body of work at Skidmore has prepared him very well for this next phase of his career.”

Sandler was the Liberty League Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2011. He led the 2011 team to a league regular season title and paced the Thoroughbreds to appearances in the conference title game in 2007 and 2010. Sandler led the 2011 Skidmore team to as high as 11th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, the top ranking in program history.

“It’s bittersweet for me in that I’m really excited and energized to get going with that group of guys at Colby, but it’s also tough to leave this group here behind,” Sandler said.

Sandler was an assistant coach at Dickinson College for one year, helping the team to the Centennial Conference semifinals and the first win over rival Franklin & Marshall in 20 years.
