Authorities confirm identity of teen killed in dirt bike accident

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

CARTHAGE, Maine — Authorities have released the name of the teenage boy killed in a dirt bike accident in Carthage on Sunday evening.

Tyla Thibodeau, 15, of Carthage was killed when a coil of rope he was hauling behind a two-wheeled dirt bike became entangled in the machine’s rear wheel and around him, Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said.

A cause of death has not been released by the Medical Examiner’s Office, MacDonald said. Maine state law regulates two-wheeled dirtbikes as ATVs.

Thibodeau was visiting friends at the time of the accident, the corporal said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case is being reviewed by the Warden Service and Franklin County District Attorney’s Office.
