U.S. East champ Pennsylvania improves to 2-0 in Senior League World Series

BANGOR, Maine — U.S. East champion Kennett Square, Pa., won its second straight game and U.S. Southwest titlist Laredo, Texas, notched its first victory in Pool B play during the second day of the Senior League World Series Monday.

Kennett Square (2-0) rolled by Europe & Africa champ Emilia, Italy (0-1) 11-1 in five innings in Monday’s first game and Laredo (1-1) beat U.S. Central champ Chicago 12-2 in six innings in the nightcap.

In the first game, Kennett Square scored nine runs in the first three innings to cruise to victory.

Eric Duerr’s RBI double, followed by a fielder’s choice, and an RBI single by Dan Garver plated Kennett square’s first runs in the first inning. Tucker Reese chipped in with an RBI single in the second inning.

Drew Jarmuz sparked Kennett Square with a 4-for-4 effort.

Alex Pechin pitched three strong innings for the winners as he didn’t allow a hit or run while walking two and striking out two.

In the nightcap, Sergio Macias turned in a strong pitching and hitting effort to propel Laredo to victory.

Macias didn’t allow an earned run against Chicago in four innings. while giving up just one hit, a walk and striking out four. He helped himself out with two triples and a single.

Damian Rodriguez chipped in with a double, single and two RBI. Felipe Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly and single while Ricky Villarreal had a two-run single.

Matt Grzesiak singled and drove in a run for Chicago and Alex Martinez had an RBI.

Kennett Square and Chicago will battle at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Italy will take on Latin America champ Herrera, Panama, at 1 p.m. Laredo has Tuesday off and resumes play at 10 a.m. Wednesday against Italy.
