BRUNSWICK, Maine — Police in Bath and Brunswick on Monday identified two people found dead in public places over the weekend. Police believe the cause of death in both instances to be suicide.
The body of John C. Monteith III, 31, of Brunswick was discovered by two youths Saturday afternoon in woods behind BayBridge trailer park off Bath Road, according to Brunswick police Capt. Mark Waltz.
Monteith was reported missing on Wednesday, three days before his body was found.
Bath police said Monday that a body found early Sunday morning on the banks of the Kennebec River was that of Debra McKellar, 60, of Bath.
McKellar’s body was discovered at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the south end boat launch on Washington Street, Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said Sunday.
Police collected evidence at the woman’s home that indicates her death was a suicide.
Police are not sure where McKellar went into the river, or where and when she was last seen by neighbors, according to Savary.
Foul play is not suspected in either case, police said.
