BANGOR, Maine — A local woman who tried to leave Shaw’s supermarket with more than $200 in unpaid merchandise Saturday wound up under arrest, police said.

Sherrilyn Kenney, 27, had been placing groceries in bags as she selected them at the Main Street supermarket, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

A store security officer had been watching Kenney bag the groceries while choosing them, Edwards said. The woman was confronted by personnel immediately after she left the store.

It turns out Kenney attempted to leave with $232.13 worth of items, according to the sergeant.

Kenney was taken into custody and charged with theft. She later was released on bail.
