WALDOBORO, Maine — One woman was transported for medical treatment by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter Sunday afternoon after a head-on collision on U.S. Route 1.

The accident happened at 1:51 p.m., near Bullwinkle’s Restaurant, according to a Lincoln County emergency dispatcher, who said at 3 p.m. that traffic was still being diverted on the busy coastal thoroughfare. At that time, Route 1 was closed between the Knox County line and Route 220 in Waldoboro, with drivers rerouted down Old Route 1.

He said that he didn’t have any further information or identification for the woman or any other people who were involved in the accident. LifeFlight and Waldoboro fire, police and EMS departments remained at the scene, according to the dispatcher.
