BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A distracted driver was hospitalized Saturday with serious internal injuries after driving into a parked potato truck in Aroostook County, according to state police.

Angela Jordan, 32, was driving north on U.S. Route 1 around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release. Jordan was on her cellphone when she drifted into the breakdown lane, striking the loaded truck.

The truck’s driver, Taylor Jameson, 20, had pulled over to inspect a possible flat tire, the release said. The crash caused extensive damage to the truck’s rear axle, frame and bumper. Jordan’s 2004 GMC Yukon was considered a total loss.

Jordan was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, and was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center for injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening. Jameson was outside the truck when the accident occurred and was uninjured.

State police, Bridgewater Fire Department and Maine Warden Service all went to the scene. Efforts Sunday morning to obtain more information about the crash were unsuccessful.
