PORTLAND, Maine — Boston Bruins left wing Daniel Paille is scheduled to make an appearance at Hadlock Field on Saturday, Aug. 31 when the Portland Sea Dogs host the Trenton Thunder in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

Paille will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be available to sign free autographs on photos provided by the Portland Sea Dogs for fans from 5:15-6:30 p.m.

The 29 year-old Paille is an eight year veteran in the NHL. In 427 regular season NHL games he has scored 70 goals and recorded 71 assists. In the 2012-2013 regular season he appeared in 46 games with 10 goals in seven assists.

Browns’ Lauvao to have ankle surgery

Cleveland Browns starting right guard Shawn Lauvao was scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle on Friday, coach Rob Chudzinski said, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Lauvao injured his ankle earlier this week in practice.

The team provided no specific timetable for Lauvao’s possible return, but did say he would miss some regular-season games.

As a result, Jason Pinkston is likely to return to the starting lineup. He was the starting left guard last season before a blood clot in his lung that ended his season after six games.

Lauvao, a third-round pick in 2010, has started the last 32 games for the Browns.

Ex-NFL star Moss close to deal with FOX

Former NFL star Randy Moss had a shaky relationship with media when he was a player, but now it appears he will become a member of the media.

Moss has a tentative deal with FOX, a source told ProFootballTalk.com.

According to the report, the deal has not been finalized, but if no unforeseen glitches arise, it should be completed soon.

Moss’ duties for FOX have not been fully determined, but he is expected to contribute to FOX Football Daily on the new FOX Sports 1 network. Moss may also on Sundays on FOX Sports 1.

Moss last played in the NFL last season, when he had 28 catches in 16 games, including two starts, for the San Francisco 49ers.

Steelers’ Burress to have shoulder surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress will undergo shoulder surgery, the team announced via Twitter on Friday.

Burress was carted off the practice field Thursday, and NFL.com and ESPN.com later reported that he sustained a torn right rotator cuff.

They injury may not only cost Burress the season, but perhaps his career.

Burress was attempting to catch a pass while being defended by two defensive backs, and he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder.

The 12-year veteran is competing for a spot as a No. 4 or 5 wide receiver in his second stint with the Steelers.

Burress, 35, had three catches for 42 yards in four games with the Steelers last season. He has 553 career receptions for 8,499 yards with 64 touchdowns in 147 games.

Rams’ Saffold out with shoulder injury

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said Friday that right tackle Rodger Saffold sustained a dislocated left shoulder in Thursday’s preseason game and may miss a couple preseason games,

“We’re still doing tests,” Fisher said during a press conference. “He’s a little sore. He’s going to miss some time. He may miss a preseason game or two.”

Saffold needs playing time because he was moved to the right side after playing the past three seasons at left tackle.

Joe Barksdale and Ty Nsekhe are likely to share Saffold’s spot until he returns.
