Holy Donut, the wildly popular donut shop on Park Street in Portland, has confirmed that it will be opening a second location at 7 Exchange St. in the Old Port.

In addition, at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, owner Leigh Kellis will appear on the Cooking Channel show “Donut Showdown,” a reality show similar in style to “Cupcake Wars.”

In other Portland-area pastry news, Little Bigs Bakery will open Thursday, Aug. 16, at 340 Main St. in South Portland. Aside from bread, cookies and other baked treats, they will specialize in handheld baked goodies, including hand pies — savory pastry pockets filled with things like pork pie with pickle relish, mushroom, leek and duck confit, and salmon and peas. They’ll make an array of doughnuts and other sweet goodies, too. Owners Pamela Fitzpatrick and James Murray Plunkett have an extensive background in baking — Fitzpatrick worked at the acclaimed La Brea Bakery in Los Angeles.
