BANGOR, Maine — Kennett Square, Pa., Pearl City, Hawaii, and Laredo, Texas, are the latest qualifiers for the Senior League World Series that begins at Mansfield Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Those teams won their respective regional tournaments Tuesday night.

Kennett Square KAU has earned its first SLWS bid as the U.S. East representative after beating Quincy, Mass., 6-2 in Wednesday’s regional title game at West Deptford, N.J.

Pearl City, Hawaii, will be making its fourth SLWS appearance in Bangor but first since 2008 after winning the U.S. West crown with a 4-3 victory over Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Pearl City finished 6-1 in round-robin play to advance to the final against Manhattan Beach, which in 2010 took an undefeated record into the SLWS semifinals before being ousted by Maine District 3 representative Bangor during the host team’s run to the world championship game.

Pearl City last reached the SLWS in 2008 after advancing to the tourney’s world title game in both 2005 and 2006. The Hawaiians fell to Urbandale, Iowa, in the 2005 final and to Falcon, Venezuela, a year later.

Pearl City will open pool play at this year’s SLWS at 8 p.m. Sunday against U.S. Southeast winner Martinez, Ga.

Laredo, Texas, swept undefeated through the six-team U.S. Southwest regional, defeating West University Little League of Houston, Texas, 9-0 in the championship round.

The Houston program had represented that region at the SLWS three of the last four years, in 2012, 2010 and 2009, when it won the world championship.

Laredo, Texas, will play its first game at the SLWS at 5:30 p.m. Sunday against Kennett Square, Pa.

Two other teams qualified for the SLWS earlier Tuesday, as Bangor edged Bronco Little League of Hampden 3-2 to win the Maine District 3 crown and Martinez, Ga., won the U.S. Southeast title with a 3-1 win over Dumfries, Va.

Other qualifiers already in the 10-team SLWS field are Makati City, Philippines (Asia-Pacific), Emilia, Italy (Europe & Africa) and Chitre, Herrera, Panama (Latin America).

The U.S. Central region qualifier was scheduled to be determined late Wednesday, with Team Canada on track to be named Thursday.

Opening ceremonies for the Senior League World Series will be held Saturday evening at Mansfield Stadium, with the tournament’s opening game at noon Sunday matching Bangor against Canada.
