Life by Design opens Veazie office

Life By Design, a state licensed mental health and substance abuse agency, currently has offices in Fort Kent, Caribou, Presque Isle, and Houlton. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the agency recently opened an office at 1510 State St., Veazie.

Amber Walker, LCSW, will be the first employee at the Veazie office. She has more than 10 years of experience in clinical practice. Walker specializes with the dual-diagnosed adolescent population and with the military and their families.

Formerly a captain in the Air Force, Walker ran a mental health clinic that served active-duty military members. She currently is a captain in the Air Force Reserves.

Walker has been published six different times for her art journals; she recently showed her art journal in an art exhibit for Maine book artists She has taken her skill of art journaling and weaved the skill into her already existing theories of practice and clinical work with clients; Walker has found the skill of visual arts to be a powerful intervention with many clients.

Walker will offer two free workshops at the Life By Design office in Veazie:

• Art Journaling Workshop for Teens, noon-4 p.m., Aug. 16;

• Art Journaling Workshop for Women, 9 a.m.-noon, Aug. 17.
