Rev. Gerald James Hersom

GEORGETOWN – Rev. Gerald James Hersom, 80, of Georgetown, died at home, Friday, Aug. 2, 2013. He was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Easton, the oldest son of Burrill and Marion (McKay) Hersom.
Rev. Hersom earned a Bachelor of Arts from Providence-Barrington Bible College in 1959 and attended a year of Divinity School at Gordon College. He was ordained at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in 1960. Rev. Hersom pastored many churches throughout Maine, W. Va., and Ohio until his retirement to Georgetown in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Christina Elaine (Stevens) Hersom of Georgetown; three sons, Timothy Hersom of Hampton, Va., Gregory Hersom of Troutman, N.C., and Mathew Hersom of Gerrardstown, W. Va.; two daughters, Beverly Rowan of Franklin, N.J., and Christy Roberts of Greenville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Larry Hersom of Brewer; and a sister, Joyce Paine of Bangor.
Visiting hours will be held 4- 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Five Islands Baptist Church, Georgetown.
