ORRINGTON AND BLUE HILL – Herbert Austin Lavoie, 71, passed away Aug. 3, 2013, at his home in Orrington. Herbert was born April 11, 1942, in Blue Hill, the son of Peter M. and Helen M. (Ellingwood) Lavoie.
Herbert worked as a mechanic for most of his life and drove tractor-trailer for several years as well. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. Herbert was a member of Enterprise Grange No. 172, Pomona Grange No. 8, an associate member of the IOOF Lodge No. 79 of Blue Hill, IOOF Lodge No. 136 of Monroe, Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 0217 AF & AM of Orrington, and Anah Shrine of Bangor. In his spare time, Herbert enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and going to the stock car races. He loved to watch NASCAR, which he was doing when he passed away with his wife by his side.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Christine; son, Paul Lavoie and fiancée, Penny Winters of Blue Hill; daughter, Patricia Larabee of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Nancy Blastow and husband, Gilbert, of Deer Isle; stepsons, Brian Eaton and family of Copperas Cove, Texas and Llewellyn Eaton of Orrington; five step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Herbert was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Peter Lavoie Jr., Ruth Billings, Loretta Bowden and Thelma Lavoie.
A memorial service celebrating Herbert’s life will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, conducted by the Chaplain of the IOOF Lodge No. 136 of Monroe. Family and friends are invited to visit from 6 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Interment will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Mount Ephraim Cemetery, Cemetery Road, North Brooklin.
