Car fire damages new Presque Isle business

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A new repair shop was damaged Wednesday morning after a car in the building caught fire.

Peter Campbell, owner of Pete’s Performance Garage at 55 Industrial St., was welding on the frame of a 14-year-old used vehicle when it caught fire, according to Capt. Vince Baldwin of the Presque Isle Fire Department.

The business, which just opened recently, was damaged by smoke. The vehicle was heavily damaged, Baldwin said Thursday. He did not know the dollar amount of the damage to the business or the vehicle.

Crews were only at the shop for a short time, Baldwin said, and no one was injured.
