Keith A. Larby

WINTERPORT – Keith Avon Larby, 84, passed away peacefully July 29, 2013, at a Bangor nursing facility. Keith was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Winterport, son of Percy V. and Lela (Borden) Larby.

Keith grew up and was educated in Winterport, a town he was a lifelong resident of. He served his country faithfully by joining the U.S. Navy for eight years at the young age of 17. He then worked as a machine tool operator at GE until his retirement in 1990 and worked for Rapaport Auto Body. He had a love for flying as a hobby and held his pilot’s license for 40 years. Keith was a CB radio enthusiast and talked with people all over the world, known by his handle Skyhawk. Keith will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Keith is survived by his children, Robert S. Larby and significant other, Cindy Chapman, of Bangor, Kenneth Larby of Newport News, Va., and Judy Larby and significant other, Rick Sears, of Illinois; five grandchildren, Keith, Mitchell, Mindy, Christy and Roberta; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Percy Larby of Winterport; as well as several nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his parents; wife, Betty, and brother, Floyd.

Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment with military honors will be after the funeral at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Winterport.
