BELFAST, Maine — Police said Tuesday that one man was seriously injured in a three-car accident on Route 3 that happened over the weekend.

David Lee, 31, of New Jersey was the driver of one of the cars involved in the Saturday afternoon crash, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department. Lee was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter. McFadden said Tuesday that he didn’t have an update on his condition.

An EMMC spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon that she had no information about Lee’s condition.

According to the police report, one vehicle that was heading east on Route 3, near the Belmont town line, had swerved over the line and hit a vehicle traveling west head-on. The second vehicle spun out of control and hit another vehicle traveling east on the well-traveled state route.

McFadden said that Lee was the driver of the first vehicle that swerved over the line. Altogether, three people were injured in the crash, but he could not identify the other two.

Traffic was shut down for hours after the accident and Belfast police called an accident reconstructionist from Rockland to help because of the seriousness of the injuries, McFadden said.
