LIBERTY, Maine — A two-car accident Tuesday morning on Route 3 in Liberty has left one person dead, according to a report from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said at about 11:30 a.m. that until the person’s next-of-kin has been notified, police would not be releasing names. Officials remained at the scene of the collision, which was reported to police at 8:17 a.m. in the vicinity of the Liberty General Store.
Trafton said that crews from the sheriff’s office, the Liberty Fire Department, Maine State Police and the Maine Department of Transportation went to the scene. Workers from Maine DOT apparently were called to give first responders a hand cleaning up some fuel that leaked from one of the vehicles involved in the crash.
He said he was unsure whether traffic had been rerouted away from the accident.
