Bangor, Bronco record two wins in District 3 Senior League tourney

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor and Bronco Little League of Hampden each recorded two victories over the weekend during the District 3 Senior League all-star baseball tourney at Mansfield Stadium.

Bangor beat Houlton 11-3 and Bronco stopped Holbrook 9-4 to set up a winners’ bracket clash between those two winners next Sunday at 7 p.m.

The District 3 tourney opened with three games on Saturday when Bangor blanked Sebasticook 9-0, Holbrook beat Brewer 9-5 and Bronco defeated Old Town 12-2.

In Sunday’s nightcap, Old Town ousted Brewer 7-4 in a losers bracket contest.

The winner of the double-elimination tourney earns a berth in the Senior League World Series, set for Aug. 11-17 at Mansfield.

In Saturday’s first game, Alec Coleman-Pray sparked Bangor in the first game with a double, two singles and an RBI. Ben Crichton added an RBI triple. Winning pitcher Jim Prescott pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, shutting out Sebasticook while giving up two hits and a walk and striking out nine.

Tyler Knight, Dylan Thibodeau and Andrew Dyer each singled for Sebasticook.

In Saturday’s second game, Holbrook scored in every inning and was backed by an errorless defense in its victory over Brewer.

Logan Rogerson smacked an RBI triple and single for Holbrook and Chase Allen chipped in with two singles and two RBI.

Jacob Currier and Greg Warmuth each singled twice and drove in a run for Brewer. Dan Vilasuso added two singles.

In Saturday’s third game, Bronco LL sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs to force the 10-run rule victory. Eric Hoogterp notched a complete game with two unearned runs, five hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.

Billy Campbell doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the winners, Hoogterp added an RBI double and single and Tristan Gardner notched an RBI double.

Drew Coulombe singled twice for Old Town.

In Sunday’s first game, Nick Moore earned the win in relief for Bangor as he didn’t allow a run while giving up two hits, two walks and striking out three over 4 2/3 innings.

Bangor took the lead for good with a four-run fifth inning. Trevor DeLaite led off with a single, Ben Crichton doubled and DeLaite scored on Andrew Hillier’s sacrifice fly. Justin Courtney then singled to drive home Crichton. Sam Huston singled to drive in Courtney and scored from second on Alec Coleman-Pray’s single.

Courtney sparked Bangor with a double, single and two RBI and DeLaite added two singles and scored three runs. Crichton added a double and single and Coleman-Pray singled twice with an RBI.

Jake Drew, Ryan Dee, and Trent Cullinan each singled for Bangor.

In Sunday’s second game, Ben Wheeler’s RBI double and Eric Hoogterp’s RBI single helped spark a five-run third inning for Bronco en route to the victory.

Tristan Gardner also contributed for Bronco with a double and two singles.

Chase Allen doubled for Holbrook and Tommy Burns singled twice.

In Sunday’s nightcap, Old Town scored five runs on two hits and six Brewer errors over the first two innings en route to the victory.

Garvey Melmed recorded two singles for Old Town and Greg Warmuth singled twice for Brewer.
