CAMBRIDGE and NEWPORT – Wallace Nelson Stackpole Jr., 87, died July 27, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility after a long illness. Wallace was born May 28, 1926, in Newport, son of Wallace N. and Marjorie (Palmer) Stackpole Sr.
He attended Newport schools. He married Irene Estes June 10, 1947, in Newport. Wallace was a World War II Army veteran serving as an Infantry Sergeant in central Europe, Rhineland campaign. For 25 years, Wallace worked as a plant supervisor on the night shift at H. P. Hood & Sons, Newport. Wallace was a retired honorary member of the Newport Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors especially while fishing, hunting and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene A. Stackpole of Cambridge; three sons and their wives, Nelson and Kathie Stackpole of Newport, N.H., Larry and Bette Stackpole of Palmyra, and John and Sylvia Stackpole of Cambridge; daughter and husband, Roxann and Dennis Condon of Plymouth; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Cambridge Memorial Garden Cemetery with John H. Stackpole officiating.
