Sanford man seriously injured in golf cart crash at Point Sebago Resort

CASCO, Maine — One man was taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center and another man was charged with operating under the influence after a golf cart crash Saturday night at Point Sebago Resort.

Just before 10:30 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report at Point Sebago Resort on Sebago Lake that someone had been thrown from a moving golf cart, according to a release from Capt. Shawn O’Leary.

John Mackay, 52, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in the crash and was airlifted by LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center.

Gary Belinsky, 59, of Westford, Mass., the operator of the golf cart, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, according to O’Leary. Belinsky was taken to Cumberland County Jail. His bail was set at $300.

Mackay’s condition was not immediately available Sunday morning.
