CANOE RACING

At Island Falls, Birch Point Campground, Pleasant Lake, the Island Falls Lakes Association is sponsoring its 10th annual Canoe/Kayak Races to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, categories at all levels of age and ability, registration takes place 9-9:45 a.m., $10 per person; Southern Aroostook Community School Dollars for Scholars is grilling hot dogs, IFLA Board members are asked to bring a dessert to share, proceeds benefit Dollars for Scholars program.

Sunday, Aug. 4

At Grand Lake Stream, Grand Lake Lodge, ninth annual West Grand Lake race, with courses of 12, 6, or 4 miles, and a shorter race for kids; all courses start and finish in the village of Grand Lake Stream and are round trips around islands in West Grand Lake; registration is from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the boat landing at the west side of the Grand Lake Stream dam on Shaw Street in Grand Lake Stream, $25 or $15 for ages 12 and under, includes registration, T-shirts, snacks and a cookout at Grand Lake Lodge after the race, call 796-2100 or contact info@downeastlakes.org. for information.
