LUBEC, Maine — A fundraiser with several events will be held this Saturday to help the family of Londyn Elise Porter, a 10-month-old girl diagnosed with a rare and likely fatal form of cancer.
The benefit, being held from 9 a.m. to about 2 p.m. at the Lubec Elementary School, will include a car wash, voluntary toll and children’s games, and will be held outside, weather permitting. There also will be a barbecue, yard sale, Chinese raffle, 50/50 raffle, manicures for little girls, cupcake decorating, a plant table, face painting and a dessert auction. Kerry’s Photography also will be on hand to take pictures, with half the proceeds being donated.
Londyn was 4 months old when she was diagnosed with a rare form of retinoblastoma, a type of cancer that has already cost the infant one eye and has spread into her other eye and her brain.
The child has been through chemotherapy and just went through a bone marrow transplant, but remains hospitalized at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital due to other life-threatening complications that have developed in the past couple of weeks.
Though born in California, where her mother, Taiya Porter, moved some time ago, Londyn has family in Maine, including her great-grandmother, Linda Maker, an educational technician at Lubec Elementary School.
