ROCKLAND, Maine — A 22-year-old Rockland man will serve six months in jail for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Roman Coneita pleaded guilty Wednesday in Knox County Superior Court to unlawful sexual contact involving the girl last October. Justice Jeffrey Hjelm approved an agreement reached between the defense and district attorney’s office in which Coneita was sentenced to five years with all but six months suspended. When he gets out, he will be placed on probation for three years.
According to a police affidavit filed last year, the case was referred to the Rockland Police Department by a school official who had spoken to the girl. The girl said she had been going out with a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. The 22-year-old, Coneita, had fondled her genitals, according to the police report.
The victim and her family are in support of the sentence agreement reached, according to Assistant District Attorney Christopher Fernald.
