Apple tree sapling thieves repeat heist from Bath park

By Beth Brogan, BDN Staff

BATH, Maine — Someone is stealing apple trees from South End Park — also known as the South End Dog Park — as fast as the city can plant them.

On June 18, and then again several weeks later, Bath arborist Tom Hoerth reported to Bath police that someone ripped the newly-planted trees out of the ground, Bath Police Lt. Robert Savary said Wednesday.

Eleven saplings in all were taken, representing a total value of $550, according to Savary.

Police continue to investigate the thefts, although Savary said they have no leads at this point. He asked anyone with information to call the Bath Police Department at 443-5563.
