Biddeford, Lewiston advance at 9-10 baseball state tourney


WALDOBORO, Maine — Biddeford and Elliot Avenue of Lewiston registered victories Monday during the final day of pool play at the Little League Baseball State Championship Tournament for ages 9-10 being held at Clyde L. Sukeforth Memorial Field.

Biddeford handled Waldo County 11-1 in the first game, then Elliot Avenue edged the Down East Family YMCA of Ellsworth 402 in the second game. Neither Waldo County nor DEFY advanced to the championship round.

Tuesday’s games pit Pool A winner Old Town against Pool B runner-up Windham at 3 p.m. and Pool B champ Biddeford against Pool A runner-up Elliot Avenue at 5 p.m.

In Game 5, Brady Wildes and Alex McAlevey combined on a four-hitter and teamed up for five strikeouts to propel Biddeford.

The winners were led offensively by a tirple from Scott Kelly and Will Harriman’s double. Biddeford posted eight hits.

Dylan Abbott hit a triple and Steven Perkins doubled to lead Waldo County, which issued 10 walks in addition to eight hits.

In Game 6, Lewiston prevailed with the benefit of only two hits against Ellsworth pitching.

Damon Bossie and Dom Chasse teamed up on a six-hitter for Elliot Avenue and had 11 strikeouts between them. Chasse doubled and Brodi Farinas singled for the winners.

Hunter Curtis and Jackson Curtis allowed only two hits and struck out 16 batters, but did issue seven walks. Jackson Curtis stroked two doubles to power Down East Family YMCA.
