A man driving this lawn mower was injured when he was hit by a van Sunday.

LEBANON, Maine — A local man avoided serious injury Sunday after his lawn mower was struck by a van on Route 111, according to officials.

Lebanon Assistant Rescue Chief Jason Cole said the 49-year-old’s lawn mower somehow accidentally entered the highway into the path of a westbound Ford Econoline.

The van was traveling the posted speed limit of 55 miles per hour when it struck the $14,000 lawn mower, Cole said.

The victim was thrown from the commercial lawn mower upon being struck, rolled several times and came to rest in a ditch about 100-150 feet from the point where he was hit, Cole explained.

The man was treated at the scene for his injuries but refused a trip to the hospital. The driver of the van, a 50-year-old Lebanon man, was not injured.

Correction: An earlier version of this story requires correction. The commercial lawn mower that was struck by a van did not sustain $14,000 in damage, it is worth $14,000.
