Dexter man arrested after allegedly assaulting girlfriend, damaging doors at residence

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A 32-year-old Dexter man wound up going to jail early Sunday after a heated argument with his girlfriend, police said.

Early Sunday morning, Benjamin Grignon, 32, and the woman had been arguing frequently, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards, and the woman told Grignon to leave.

“She was angry over some personal issues between the two of them,” said Edwards, noting the pair has been dating for the last two years.

As the victim was attempting to pack up Grignon’s belongings, he came to the locked door of her residence and managed to gain entry, according to Edwards, but by that point the woman had locked herself in a bathroom.

As police approached, they could hear the woman screaming from the bathroom and just as Grignon broke down the bathroom door, police swooped in and took him into custody, the sergeant said.

Grignon was charged with domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal mischief and brought to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday.
