A few thousand laid-back fans packed Bangor’s Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion Sunday to hear the uplifting and rhythmic acoustic sounds of Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies and Guster as part of the bands’ 2013 Last Summer on Earth Tour.

With temperatures hovering around 70 degrees, ticket holders and others in the area danced in the waning sunshine with performers who seemed to enjoy themselves and comedic back-and-forth banter as much as crowd.

Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies includes guitarist and vocalist Ed Robertson, bassist and vocalist Jim Creeggan, keyboardist and vocalist Kevin Hearn, and drummer and vocalist Tyler Stewart. This is the band’s second trip to the Bangor Waterfront and its 25th anniversary, according to the tour’s website. The group celebrated the milestone with the release of a new studio album earlier this summer.

Ben Folds Five, the piano rock trio out of North Carolina, is participating in the tour to support the group’s first album in 13 years, called “The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind.” Band members included pianist Ben Folds, bassist Robert Sledge and Darren Jesse.

Guster, an alternative rock band that started in a dorm room at Tufts University in Massachusetts, includes singers Ryan Miller and Portland resident Adam Gardner along with Brian Rosenworcel and Luke Reynolds. The group has released a number of albums in the last decade and recently produced the score for the 2012 Sundance film “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

After a side-splitting opening by English comedian and singer Boothby Graffoe, Guster kicked off the show.

The group started with hits “What You Wish For” and “One Man Wrecking Machine.”

The tour will continue Tuesday in Lenox, Mass.
