By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

LEE, Maine — Two people attempted to break into an ATM at the Lincoln Federal Credit Union’s branch in Lee early Friday, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened about 12:20 a.m. Friday, Chief Deputy Troy Morton said in a news release issued late Friday afternoon.

He said the two people caused an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 in damage to the ATM in the credit union’s drive through. It was not immediately clear if any cash was taken.

Investigators spent much of Friday collecting evidence and processing the crime scene, Morton said. He said that photo and video evidence has been collected.

Anyone who has information or who may have been in the area of the Lincoln Federal Credit Union on Route 6 in Lee early Friday morning is asked to call the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585.
