BUCKSPORT, Maine — Police have arrested a local man who allegedly broke into Subway late at night and stole “a large amount of money” from the cash register.

Police were called to the Subway around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a burglary. Someone had broken through the front doors and taken what police would only describe as a substantial chunk of cash — though less than $1,000 — before leaving the scene.

Video surveillance showed a man dressed in all black and a Halloween mask committing the crime just before midnight Tuesday.

Police say that man was Benjamin Robbins, 20, of Bucksport, who was arrested early Wednesday afternoon and charged with burglary and theft. Police say they recovered the stolen cash from Robbins, who bailed out of the Bucksport Police Station without being brought to Hancock County Jail.

Robbins is scheduled to be arraigned at Hancock County Superior Court on Oct. 17.
