SEAL HARBOR, MOUNT DESERT and ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. – Eleanor R. “Ellie” Jordan, 78, died July 12, 2013, at her home on Long Pond, Mount Desert. She was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Northeast Harbor, daughter of Jackson L. and Louise A. (Galen) Reynolds.
Ellie graduated from Mount Desert High School, Northeast Harbor in 1953. She then went to nursing school and became a registered nurse. She met and married the love of her life John E. “Jack” Jordan, Dec. 13, 1958. They made their home in Seal Harbor where they raised two sons. While the children were young Ellie returned to school and graduated in the first class of nurse anesthetist from Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. She worked at Mount Desert Island Hospital for many years. Ellie had been a past member of the Congregational Church in Seal Harbor and a life member of the Irene Chapter No. 97 Order of Eastern Star. Jack had been involved in the Anah Temple Shrine since 1959 and Ellie supported his work and dedication to the Shrine and his public service of being Hancock County Commissioner of more than 20 years and the many organizations associated with both. Later in her life when she and Jack retired they traveled from their Mount Desert home on Long Pond, Somesville, to spend winters in Florida on St. Pete Beach, before moving there fulltime in 2006. Ellie continued to travel back and forth between Maine and Florida. Both of them became very active in the St. Pete Beach community spending many good times with the American Legion Post No. 125, Gulfport, Fla., and Post No. 305, St. Pete Beach, Fla. She will be sadly missed by all of her Florida friends of the former Dicks Oasis, St. Pete Beach, Fla., where Ellie and Jack had met a lot of life long friends.
After 53 years of marriage, Jack predeceased Ellie May 21, 2011. Ellie is survived by two sons, James E. Jordan of Mount Desert and Ronald D. Jordan of Portland; two grandchildren, Jason E. Jordan and wife, Carrie, and Brian J. Jordan; brother, Jackson L. Reynolds Jr. and family; sister, Shirley R. McGarr and family; and sisters-in-law, Esther Gorman and family and Judith Harvel and family.
