BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested late Wednesday after repeatedly refusing to leave a local bar, police said.

Danny Mercier, 35, had been asked multiple times to leave Carolina’s Sports and Spirits just before midnight, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

When Officers Chris Beck and Gary Decker arrived, a bouncer at the bar told police that Mercier was acting disorderly and wanted him to leave, the sergeant said.

Police tried to get Mercier a cab, but he refused and started to walk away, Edwards said, after being told to leave the bar.

Mercier apparently didn’t listen, walking 30 feet before turning back toward Carolina’s, the sergeant said, and Decker told him twice to leave.

Mercier ignored the officer and went back into the bar, but he came back out in handcuffs after police arrested him for criminal trespass, the sergeant said.

Mercier was brought to Penobscot County Jail.
