BANGOR, Maine — A report of a fight on First Street on Tuesday night led to a local transient going to jail for violating his bail conditions, police said.

Officer Doug Smith went to the area after an altercation involving two men shortly before 8 p.m., according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

By the time Smith had gotten to the area, a man and a woman were walking toward Second Street park, and Smith caught up to the highly intoxicated man, 47-year old Danny Mitchell.

Even though no arrests were made in connection with the alleged altercation, Smith learned that Mitchell had bail conditions not to possess or consume alcohol, according to Edwards.

Smith placed Mitchell under arrest and brought him to Penobscot County Jail. His last known brush with law enforcement occurred in 2003, according to BDN court archives, when Mitchell was arrested for domestic violence assault.
