BANGOR, Maine — Hollywood Casino Hotel and Raceway is marking its fifth anniversary at 500 Main St. Activities will include a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro give away on Saturday, July 20; live music with no cover charge Fridays and Saturdays through July; and Stars on the Waterfront giveaway — 10 pairs of tickets to five different shows at the Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion through July.

Bank elects new board chairman, vice chairman

BANGOR, Maine — At the annual meeting of the Bangor Savings Bank in June, Jim Conlon, bank president and CEO, recognized the contributions of outgoing board chairman James Goff and welcomed Dr. Robert Strong and Gena Canning of Yarmouth as chairman and vice chairman, respectively.

Goff will continue his relationship with Bangor Savings by assuming the role of chairman of the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation, replacing Gary Smith.

Strong, University of Maine Foundation professor of investment education and professor of finance at the University of Maine.

Canning is a managing partner at Pine State Trading Company, serving on the company’s board of directors and executive leadership team. She was elected as trustee of Bangor Savings Bank in 2006.

Strong and Canning also were elected chairman and vice chairman of the board of the Bank’s parent company, Bangor Bancorp, MHC.


Device workshop

U.S. Cellular will offer a free Device Workshop 9-10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at 403 Wilson St. in Brewer, and 8-9 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at 33 Mid Mall Boulevard in Bangor. The workshop will focus on helping families make the decision of when to get children their first phone along with ways that mobile phones can help families stay connected and strengthen relationships.


Yarn shop moving to new location

BREWER, Maine — Spin a Yarn will reopen at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1,  at its new location at 103 Center St. Owner Melissa MacCrae said she will close the door at the 39 North Main St. location on or about July 20. A grand reopening celebration is being planned.
