SWANS ISLAND – Eva Mae Wheaton, 85, died July 15, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 4, 1928, on Swans Island, daughter of Lester and Rosan (Martin) Staples.
Eva grew up on Swans Island and attended the Atlantic School. After coming down with an illness her senior year, she had to quit school. She received her GED when she was in her late 50s. March 23, 1946, she married Burton Wheaton. He passed away March 7, 2005. Eva worked hard as a homemaker, raising her family on Swans Island. She was a member of Advent Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the WH&FM Society. Eva enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by sons, James Wheaton and wife, Suzette, and Stephen Wheaton and wife, Marlene, all of Swans Island; grandchildren, Betsy Wheaton, Benjamin Wheaton and wife, Amy, and Patrick and Heather Wheaton; great-grandchildren, Malia Rose Wheaton and Kate Mackenzie Wheaton; two sisters, Janet Gilley and husband, Ed, and Betty Ward; and several nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Burton; infant daughter, Betsy Lynn; and grandson, James Wheaton and wife, Stacy.
Friends are invited to call 10:30 a.m.-noon Friday, July 19, at Atlantic Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held noon with the Rev. Max Creswell officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Swans Island. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swans Island Ambulance, care of Debbie Staples, P.O.
