BREWER, Maine — Distracted driving is the cause for an accident that sent two Brewer residents to the hospital on Monday evening, according to police.
Cindy Danforth, 42, was heading eastbound on Route 9 shortly before 8 p.m. when she dropped her cellphone on the floor of her 1999 Buick, according to Brewer police Capt. Chris Martin.
When Danforth bent down to pick the phone up, she lost control of the vehicle and struck a telephone pole, Martin said.
The accident occurred near the Eagle’s Nest restaurant, the police captain said.
Danforth and her passenger, Patrick Hooper, 39, were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of minor injuries, Martin said.
The road was reduced to one lane while crews, including a team from Bangor Hydro, cleaned up the scene, according to Martin.
