JAY, Maine — Local and state police are investigating a man’s body found in the woods early Tuesday behind Spruce Mountain High School in Jay.

Jay police had received a report of a missing person early Monday night. Jay officers had been on the lookout for the person, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.

The search intensified at about 11 p.m., he said. Maine wardens were called in to assist Jay Detective Richard Caton IV and other Jay officers in the search.

Maine State Police were called in at around daybreak when the body was found, White said. Age was estimated at 27 years old.
