Carolyn F. Hanscom

ORRINGTON – Carolyn Albra (Folsom) Hanscom, 81, died July 13, 2013, at home, surrounded by family. She was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Brewer, to Leila E. (Pierce) and Charles E. Folsom.
Carolyn grew up on the family farm on Wiswell Road in Brewer and graduated from Brewer High School in 1949. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and special “Aunt Susie” to many. She was a homemaker who was very proud of her sons, which she expressed to all. Family camping trips and travel with her late husband, Wendell, were special parts of their lives, camping on Mount Desert Island at Hadley Point and in Acadia National Park at Seawall, and visiting all 50 states, all Canadian provinces, Mexico and Europe. They developed many special friendships as they wintered 16 years in Apache Junction, Ariz., where Carolyn was very active in the Weavers Needle community quilting and sewing groups. A special time in Carolyn’s life occurred in 1996 when Carolyn met Vera Clifford, her pen pal of 50 years, and her husband, John, of Warminster, England, when they made a visit to Maine.
Carolyn is survived by six sons and their wives, Mark and Rebecca of Orrington, Dale and Cindy of Greenville, Brian and Julie of Orrington, Alan and Lisa of Andover, N.H., Gregg and Catherine of Orrington and Kevin and Jana of Orrington; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Hanscom and wife, Christine, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Paul Hanscom and wife, Angela, of Barrington, N.H., Steven Hanscom and partner, Candice Massey, of Scarborough, Sara Maher-Loughnan and husband, Dylan, of Cork, Ireland, Mandy Papageorgiou and husband, Andy, of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, Lee Hanscom of Bangor, Sally Malloy and husband, Clash, of Hereford, Ariz., Megan and Erin Hanscom of Andover, N.H., Charlie Hanscom of Orrington, and Thomas and Darren Hanscom of Orrington; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Joelle, Charlotte, Emily, Jen and Jack; brother, Bud Folsom of Brewer; two sisters, Eunice Baldwin of Bangor and Jo Crook of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.
