DEXTER, Maine — Police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a restaurant at knifepoint on Saturday night.

Dexter police received a report of an armed robbery at China Garden on Spring Street at 10:23 p.m. Saturday, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle said on Monday.

A male wearing a black ski mask entered the restaurant, displayed a knife and demanded money, Wintle said. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

The man fled on foot and was last seen traveling south toward Route 7 on Spring Street, he said.

Witnesses described the man as being 6 feet tall, between 150 and 180 pounds wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jacket.

Dexter police were assisted by a Maine State Police K-9 unit and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The case is still under investigation, Wintle said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dexter Police Department at 924-7622.
