Motorcycle, pickup collide head-on at ‘confusing’ Montville intersection

MONTVILLE, Maine — A weekend head-on collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle did not cause serious injuries, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at a little before 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Freedom Pond and Hall-Dale roads, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

“It’s a confusing intersection. I’ve covered a lot of accidents there over my career,” Trafton said.

William B. Shorey Jr., 55, and Kelly Shorey, 53, both of Old Town, reportedly crossed the center line at the intersection and were struck by a pickup truck operated by Adam Spaulding, 23, of Knox.

All parties involved in the crash complained of injuries, and were checked out at the scene by emergency medical crews.

Trafton said that speed was not a factor in the incident. The police report did not specify whether the Shoreys were wearing motorcycle helmets.

Officers at the scene did notice that Spaulding was driving an uninspected truck, and he was issued summonses for not having an inspection sticker and for having two inadequate tires. The tires were not a factor in the accident either, Trafton said.
