BROOKLIN – Katherine Shirley (Dority) Ricker, born May 4, 1937, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at a Bangor hopsital.
Katherine graduated salutatorian of Milo High School, class of 1954. She completed nurses training at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor, class of 1957. Her connection to her church, hospice volunteer and singing group, town band and many other community interests were of great importance to her life. A recent achievement of which Kathy was most proud was the honor bestowed upon her as outstanding volunteer awarded by The Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County.
She is survived by a loving family that included her significant other, Percy Blaisdell; three children, Susan Ricker and husband, Bill Zarakas, Dearle Ricker and fiancé, David Barlass, and David Ricker; son-in-law, Rob Childers; grandchildren, Claire and Peter Zarakas, Phoebe, Heather, and Heidi Ricker, Galen Childers and Allison Childers; her former spouse, John Ricker; as well as many others that love her deeply. She joins her parents, Reginald and Mary (Webb) Dority; brother, Reginald; daughter, Janet Ricker; Katherine’s former partner, Frazier Kellogg; as well as all those that she loved and those that loved her that have gone on before her.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at The First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, with a celebration of her life held afterward 2-4 p.m. at The Lookout Inn, Flye Point, Brooklin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in the name of Katherine Ricker be made to any of the these organizations, Ellsworth Free Clinic, Ellsworth; Emmaus Center, Ellsworth; The Reginald and Mary Dority Scholarship of Maine Community Foundation, Ellsworth; The Blue Hill Congregational Church, Blue Hill;The Salvation Army of Bangor; The Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County; or Stonington Methodist Church, Stonington.
