Acadian all-stars win District 1 title, gain berth in state tourney for ages 11-12

BAR HARBOR, Maine — Acadian rallied for a sixth-inning run to beat Ellsworth 6-5 for the District 1 Little League baseball title Thursday and earn a berth in the state all-star tourney for ages 11-12, starting July 19 in Augusta.

Acadian finished 3-0 in the double-elimination tourney, beating Ellsworth for the second time. Ellsworth finished at 2-2.

Acadian rallied in the sixth when Drew Shea led off with a single and advanced to third on Jacob Mitchell’s double. Liam Sullivan was intentionally walked and on the fourth pitch, Shea stole home to score the winning run.

Oliver Johnston earned the victory for Acadian as he struck out 11 and aided his cause with an RBI double and RBI single.

Shea and Sullivan each finished with two singles while Brett Duley bunted home a run.

State final set Friday

The state champion for Little League softball, ages 11-12, will be determined Friday in Rockland when Scarborough LL takes on Kennebunk-Kennebunkport starting at 3 p.m. at George Hall Field on 250 Pleasant St.

Scarborough is undefeated in the week-long double-elimination tournament, and Kennebunk has one loss. A win by Kennebunk in the 3 p.m. game will force a second game, which would happen approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends.

A Scarborough win in the 3 p.m game would give Kennebunk its second loss, and give the title to Scarborough.

The state champ then advances to the Little League East Region Tournament, beginning on July 19 in Bristol, Conn. That winner qualifies for the Little League Softball World Series.
