BLUE HILL, Maine — A Brooklin woman who suffered a broken pelvis and internal bleeding as a result of a two-car collision last weekend on Route 172 has died because of her injuries, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

Kathy Ricker, 76, was riding as a passenger in a 2012 Ford Focus on July 6 when the car collided head-on with a 2010 Ford Escape in the westbound lane of the highway, Deputy Jacob Day indicated in an incident summary. The Focus was headed east when it crossed into the opposite lane and struck the Escape, Day indicated. The collision occurred a few minutes before 1 p.m. near the Surry town line.

Ricker was taken to by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and then transferred by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Day wrote in the summary.

The Sheriff’s Department indicated that it was notified Wednesday that Ricker died sometime during the previous night, either late Tuesday or early Wednesday, as a result of her injuries.

Three other people in the vehicles, including the two drivers, suffered injuries in the collision that were not life-threatening, police said. Ellsworth resident Percy D. Blaisdell, 82, was driving the Focus and suffered cuts to his face and soreness to his shoulder and hip. The driver of the Escape, Jeanne O. Giroux, 60, of Blue Hill, experienced neck pain and soreness in her chest.

James Will, 64, of Eastport, a passenger in the Escape, suffered cuts to his legs and a possible broken wrist.

Both vehicles had “extensive front end damage” in the collision, Day wrote in the incident summary. Police believe Blaisdell may have had a medical issue just before the collision but the cause of the accident remains under investigation. No charges are expected to be filed, according to the sheriff’s department.
