Brewer Legion baseball team hands Bangor first loss of season

BREWER — Kyle Alexander and Galen Williamson combined on a four-hitter to help the Brewer Falcons knock the Bangor Comrades from the unbeaten ranks with a 9-0 American Legion baseball victory at Heddericg Field Wednesday night.

Alexander didn’t allow a run in 6 ⅔ innings while scattering three hits and striking out seven. Williamson gave up just one hit in the final 2 ⅓ as the Falcons improved to 9-6 while Bangor slipped to 14-1.

Chase Allen sparked Brewer with a 4-for-5 effort that included a double and three RBI. Jeff Weeks chipped in with a double, two singles and an RBI while Nick Moore added two singles and two RBI.

Curtis Worcester singled twice for Bangor.

Hampden 5, Penquis 3

At Hampden, Hampden rallied for two runs in the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 tie en route to the victory.

Justin Kasprzak laced a two-run double for the winners. Will Perkins and Andrew Giosia each chipped in with a double and single, with Perkins driving in a run.

Dylan Graffam notched a double, single and RBI for Penquis and Caleb Richard added two singles.

Motor City sweeps Lumber

At Husson University’s Winkin Complex in Bangor, Motor City improved its record to 10-6 with a doubleheader sweep over the Northern Lumber. The doubleheader was a makeup from a June 28 rainout. Northern Lumber slips to to 6-10.

In the first game, Cody Collins allowed just two hits. He struck out six while walking two and hitting a batter.

Motor City was paced by Andrew Catlin who hit a two-run inside the park home run in the fourth inning. Cameron Archer scored two runs on a single and a walk and two stolen bases. Evan Pelkey had two singles and two RBI and Collins tripled.

Jordan Morrow and Jake Drew each singled for the Lumber.

In the second, game, the Motor City bats woke up, scoring four runs in the fourth inning on five consecutive singles. Singles by Gabe Melmed, Cameron Archer, Cody Collins, Evan Pelkey and Tyler Neville led to the outburst.

The Northern Lumber got on the board first with two runs in third inning after a walk to Parker Walker, an RBI double by Griffin Libby and a sacrifice fly from Morrow.

Motor City answered back with two runs of its own as Collins singled and stole second, then was driven in on Tyler Neville’s single. The fourth-inning rally began with Melmed’s one-out single followed by RBIs from Collins, Pelkey and Neville.

Motor City was led by Archer, Collins, Pelkey and Neville who each had two singles. DJ Monteith added an RBI triple in the sixth inning while Collins also scored two runs.
