Scarborough police investigating multiple burglaries

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Police are investigating a pair of burglaries that occurred here early Wednesday morning.

Detective Sgt. Rick Rouse of the Scarborough Police Department said one motor vehicle and two sheds were burglarized in the area of Ryefield and Foxwell Drives on Wednesday. A woman had called 911 before the suspect could break into her shed.

The suspect apparently stashed his stolen goods under bushes after fleeing, as all but one of the stolen items were recovered during a K9 track, Rouse said. The only item not recovered was a chainsaw, while a GPS, leaf blower and weed wacker were all recovered, the sergeant added.

The suspect is described as a white male believed to be between the ages of 16 and 19, Rouse said. He stands 6 feet tall and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black shorts and sneakers.

No arrests have been made in the case, according to Rouse, who believes the suspect acted alone.

Police are also reminding residents to keep vehicles and property locked and secured, as unlocked vehicles, garages and homes are often easy targets for thieves.

Anyone with information on the burglaries should contact Rouse at 730-4310 or Scarborough police’s detective division at 883-6361.
