Mushlit double sparks Brewer stars past Houlton

BANGOR, Maine — Jonathan Mushlit stroked a three-run double to highlight a five-run fourth inning Tuesday night that carried Brewer to a 9-3 victory over Houlton in the District 3 Junior League all-star baseball tournament at Mansfield Stadium.

Mushlit also added a single for Brewer (1-1), which was the beneficiary of five errors by Houlton.

Jack Corey earned the win on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven and walking three..

Billy Phillips hit a double and two singles to pace 1-2 Houlton, which was eliminated.

At Millinocket, three Lincoln pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Lincoln defeated Millinocket 7-1 in District 3 baseball ages 11-12 all-star play Tuesday evening.

Both teams advanced to the single-elimination round of the District tournament, times and location to be determined.

Lincoln (2-0) was led by Duncan McIntyre, who singeld and doubled. Max Woodman singled twice and Zach Grant doubled.

Bennett Dunstan singled twice and drove in the run for Millinocket (1-1).

At Hermon, Alex Applebee pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks as Hermon beat Old Town in the third game of pool play.

Applebee also powered the Hermon offense with a three-run homer, a single and six total RBIs. Keith Pomeroy drove in four runs for the winners, while Chris Sherman had a single and two RBIs.

Keenan Marseille, Mark Mailloux and Adam Rush also provided RBI singles.

Hunter Brasslet singled twice for Old Town.

Ellsworth 9, Bucksport 1

At Bucksport, four Ellsworth pitchers combined on a three-hitter in an all-star win over Bucksport.

Brad Smith singled three times for the winners, who scored five times in the second inning to score all the runs they would need. Matt Perconti, Hunter Dougherty, Conner Wagstaff and Bradly Smith teamed up for 12 strikeouts.

Jacob Ames hit a run-scoring double for Bucksport and Luke Wardwell added a double.

At Machias, Jayden Rhodes drove in two runs with a pair of singles as Machias edged Bucksport.

Zain Fitzsimmsons singled twice for the winners, who improved to 4-1, and struck out 12 batters in five-plus innings. Kyle Anderson gained the pitching victory in relief.

Ryan Howard, Colton Trisch and Tyler Hallett posted singles for 1-2 Bucksport, which was eliminated.

At Rockland, Scarborough pitcher Kaitlyn Verreault survived a rocky first inning and pitched a two-hitter to lead Scarborough over Hermon and into Friday’s championship round.

Verreault walked four batters in the first inning and gave up an RBI single to Breanne Oakes to give Hermon the short-lived 1-0 lead. After that, Verreault allowed only one single and two walks the rest of the way.

Verreault finished with 10 strikeouts. Laura Powell led the offense with two singles, three runs scored, and two RBIs.

Oakes singled twice to support pitcher Katie Windsor for Hermon, which plays a 5 p.m. elimination game vs. Kennebunk on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

At Rockland, a three-run fifth inning broke open a 1-1 game as Kennebunk eliminated South Lewiston.

Sydney Waitt had a single to lead off the fifth, then Olivia Howe lined a two-out RBI double and Bailey Cain followed with an inside-the-park home run to make it 4-1. Cain was the winning pitcher with 13 strikeouts, allowing four hits.

Jordan Mynahan led the South Lewiston offense with a single, a double, and an RBI.
