BANGOR, Maine — The Bronco Little League of Hampden and Old Town emerged with two victories during the opening weekend of the District 3 Junior League all-star baseball tourney at Mansfield Stadium.
On Sunday, Bronco beat Brewer 7-4 and Old Town stopped Bangor 6-3. Houlton eliminated Sebasticook Valley 11-9 in the nightcap.
On Saturday, Bronco beat Holbrook 11-1, Old Town topped Sebasticook Valley 11-4 and Bangor blanked Houlton 8-0.
Bronco LL scored two key insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, led by Nick Robidoux’s lead-off single and Jackson Gilmore’s RBI single in the win over Brewer.
Matt Leach paced Bronco with a triple and two singles while Jackson Gilmore chipped in with a double and RBI single. Nick Robidoux and Zach Nash each added two singles, with Nash driving in a run.
Cameron Harvey and Jonathan Mushlit each recorded two singles and an RBI for Brewer and Alex Brooks and Cameron Green had two singles apiece.
In Sunday’s second game, T.J. Crawford’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie, scoring Nick Magoon and Nick Boutin, who led off the inning with singles, for Old Town.
Dana Ouellette earned the win on the mound in relief pitching the final 2 1/3 innings allowing no runs or hits, striking out four.
Crawford finished with a double, two singles and three RBI while Magoon added two singles and Ketch an RBI double.
Cameron Burpee and Nick Cowperthwaite each singled twice for Bangor, with Burpee driving in two runs. George Payne added a double.
In the nightcap, Houlton scored two runs in bottom of sixth to break a 9-9 tie. Dillan Buzzell led off the inning, reaching on a two-base throwing error. Walker Webb then singled, sending Buzzell to third.
Buzzell scored on Morgan Phillips groundout to shortstop. Webb would score on a wild pitch.
Billy Phillips notched three singles for Houlton and Webb had two singles.
Justin Davis singled twice and drove in two runs for Sebasticook while Alex Baird added two singles and an RBI.
Bronco LL batted around in both the first and second innings, building an early 8-1 lead in Saturday’s first game.Tyler Beaton led the effort on the mound, allowing one run on three hits, walking one and striking out three in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Jackson Gilmore paced Bronco with a double, two singles and two RBI while Casey Sudbeck chipped in with two singles and an RBI. Matt Leach added an RBI double.
Tyler Williams singled twice for Holbrook.
In Saturday’s second game, Old Town scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to break the game open. Old Town was paced in the third with RBI singles by Dana Ouellette and Nick Boutin.
Jacob Ketch doubled and had an RBI single to lead Old Town. Dana Ouellette and Nick Boutin each contributed two singles and two RBI.
Alex Baird recorded an RBI single for Sebasticook.
In Saturday’s third game, Jesse Colford pitched the first five innings allowing only one hit, striking out 12, and allowing just one walk while throwing only 61 pitches.
Colford also chipped in with a double, single and RBI. Tanner Goodine added a two-run triple and Nick Cowperthwaite slammed an RBI triple.
Caleb Tribou singled twice for Houlton.

At Machias, Kashman Feeny struck out six while pitching into the fifth inning to help Machias eliminate the Acadians.
Cecil Gray doubled for Machias, now 3-1, while Riley Wright and Jayden Rhodes each singled.
Kyle Collins paced the Acadians with a triple and RBI single. Jack Lacorte and Grady Wellman Webster each added a single.

At Demeyer Field in Ellsworth, David Baugh tripled and drove in two runs while Sam Keblinsky added a double and two RBI to propel the Downeast Family YMCA to victory.
Austin Harris chipped in with a double and RBI for the winners while Nathan Smith doubled and Jackson Curtis singled and had an RBI.
Ryan Howard singled twice for Bucksport.

At Bucksport, Isaiah Pinkham and Brady Reynolds combined on a four-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts to give Moosebec the victory in a mutual opener.
Pinkham and Reynolds also each had two hits and two RBI while Adam Robinson added two hits and two RBI.

At Glenburn, Holbrook and the Bronco Little League of Hampden collected two wins in the opening weekend of the double elimination tourney.
On Saturday, Holbrook beat Hermon 12-2, Bangor East beat Glenburn 14-4, Bronco LL edged Houlton 7-6 and Old Town rolled by Bangor West 32-2.
On Sunday, Holbrook topped Bangor East 21-14, Glenburn eliminated Hermon 10-7, Bronco LL stopped Old Town 13-1 and Houlton ousted Bangor West 14-4.
In Tuesday elimination contests, Bangor East will take on Houlton at 3 p.m. and Glenburn will battle Old Town at 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, Tuesday’s winners will clash at 3 p.m., followed by unbeatens Holbrook vs. Bronco LL at 6 p.m.
At Calais, Oliver Spainour singled twice and Luke Wardwell doubled to help Bucksport prevail.
Blake Collins and Justin Monk each singled for Calais.

At Demeyer Field in Ellsworth, Liam Sullivan cranked a three-run home run and singled to help Acadian beat Downeast Family YMCA.
Jarrod Hamilton singled, double and drove in a run for the Downeast Y while Bradley Smith and Christian Bosse each added two singles. Bosse drove in a run.
